James Hughes “Jimmy” Bynum, 81, of Hemphill, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Hemphill, Texas.
Born on April 8, 1944, in Henderson, Texas, Jimmy was the son of R. Q. Bynum and Lucille Hughes Bynum. He spent the last 17 years living in Sabine County after previously residing in Nederland.
Jimmy dedicated his professional life to education as a vocational teacher for Port Neches-Groves Independent School District. He earned a Master’s Degree and was known for his dedication to his students and his craft. Following his retirement from teaching, he continued to serve his community by operating his own air conditioning business.
A man of faith and service, Jimmy was a devoted member of the First Methodist Church of Hemphill and actively participated in the Methodist Men's Club. His involvement in church life reflected the importance of faith and fellowship throughout his life.
Jimmy enjoyed many hobbies that brought him joy and relaxation. He loved golfing, hunting, traveling, and fishing on Toledo Bend. He also appreciated the excitement of visiting casinos and spending time gambling.
Jimmy is survived by his son, David Bynum and wife, Kathleen, of The Woodlands; sisters Jane Luptak of Phoenix, Arizona, and Martha Bynum of Durango, Colorado; and grandchildren Joseph Hugh Bynum and Brennan Rene' Bynum.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, 181 Milam St., Hemphill, with Bro. Alberto Williams officiating.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home.
